 BADAGRY ANGELS WIN LAGOS SOFTBALL TOURNEY  Badagry Angels have been crowned champions of the Lagos U-15 Softball Championship held recently at the Badagry Grammar School playing field, Badagry. The five-day tournament, which began on November 11, 2024, ended on Friday, November 15 where eight teams participated in the competition designed to drive the growth of the sport at the grassroots level. As Champions of the tournament, Badagry Angels showcased their dexterity and skills against Rak Angels in the grand finale, maintaining their good position and dominance on the field before finally trouncing their opponents 9 runs to 1.  Oyo State Approves Expansion of Social Register to Support Vulnerable Households


The Oyo State Government has approved the expansion of its social register to better identify and assist poor and vulnerable individuals eligible for social intervention programs. 


The announcement was made by Salami Ismail, Acting Coordinator of the State Operation Coordinating Unit, during advocacy and sensitization visits to political leaders and management teams in 12 local government areas participating in the 10th round of the Community-Based Targeting exercise. 


In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, Ismail explained that the expansion of the register is part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to supporting disadvantaged households across the state. The social register, initially launched in 2013 with World Bank funding and later supported by the Federal Government, is updated to include households that have recently fallen into poverty or moved out of vulnerability.


The identification process uses a community-driven approach, with local government teams conducting poverty assessments to rank communities based on verified government data. This effort aims to ensure that aid reaches those most in need.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
