 TROOPS OF OPERATION WHIRL STROKE ARREST HIGH PROFILE CRIMINAL IN BENUE COMMUNITY Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE arrested a high-profile suspected criminal during an intelligence-driven operation in Agasha Village of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State, following a report of an attack on a local resident. The operation was launched on 13 March 2026 after security agencies received credible information regarding an attack on Mr Shaapera Seeta Michael in Agasha Village. Acting swiftly on the report, troops of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Intervention Battalion XI deployed under Operation WHIRL STROKE mobilised immediately to the affected area to track down the suspect responsible for the assault. Upon arrival, the troops cordoned the area to prevent the suspect from escaping while conducting a targeted search operation aimed at identifying and apprehending the alleged attacker.  South African Police Arrest 540 Illegal Miners


South African authorities have forced 540 illegal miners out of an abandoned mine shaft in Orkney, arresting them for illegal mining activities.


South African authorities blocked food and water deliveries to the mine, leading to starvation and dehydration among the miners. Thousands of "zama zamas" (illegal miners) operate in South Africa.


Since December 2023, 13,690 suspects have been arrested, with R5 million in cash and R32 million in uncut diamonds seized. National Police Commissioner Lt Gen Shadrack Sibiya praised the operation, stating that the rule of law must be restored.
