By Chizoba Okeke
The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed the 2025 appropriation bill, totaling ₦606,991,849,118 for the services of the government of Anambra State, Nigeria, for the year ending 31st December 2025.
The approval came during today's plenary session, just few weeks after Gov. Chukwuma Soludo presented the bill to the House.
The passage of the appropriation bill followed the adoption of the report from the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation.
The Chairman of the Committee and member representing Anaocha Constituency II, Sir Ejike Okechukwu, while presenting the report, said that the budget size should be retained as presented by the governor.
He explained that the capital expenditure was pegged at ₦467,473,201,837, representing 77%, while the recurrent expenditure was ₦139,507,955,604, representing 23% of the entire budget.
Okechukwu further noted that the Committee organized and invited the heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for bilateral discussions and thorough scrutiny of the 2025 budget. He added that after the review, there were few changes and adjustments based on the needs of the different MDAs, but these still fit into the budget heads.
In his remarks, the Speaker, Rt Hon Somtochukwu Udeze, described the passage of the budget as a significant milestone for the state and a testament to the collective synergy between the legislature and the executive.
The bill, which received broad support from the lawmakers, was passed with commendation for the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for its thorough scrutiny and the recommendations made.
