With display of cultural groups, the workers of Anambra State has trouped out en masse to mark the 2024 Public Service Day Celebration in the state.
This yearly event which was held at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat Complex, Awka with the theme: "Ensuring Safety and Health at work in a Changing Climate" attracted dignitaries and Civil Servants from various MDAs
Speaking at the event, the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo recounted the various giant strides and achievements his administration has recorded in different sectors of the state and thanked the workforce of the state for their support.
The governor reiterated his commitment in securing the lives and property of Ndi Anambra while announcing the launching of a new security force known as "Udo Ga - Achi". He noted that the formation of the proposed security force would fully become operational by January 2025, adding that their actions has partially kicked off while assuring Ndi Anambra of making the state a liveable home land.
He, then, added that Anambra is home for all law abiding citizens and not for hoodlums who only want to distort the peace and progress of the state while assuring the citizenry that his administration would stop at nothing in its efforts to weed out and crush criminal elements terrorising the state and promised workers immediate payments of their leave allowances and December salaries.
Earlier in her welcome address, the state Head of Service, Lady Theodora Okwy Igwegbe, said the Public Service Day Celebration is a period for stocking and acknowledging the pivotal role of the service as the main engine of governance and development in the state.
"In this process of stock taking, we recognize and reward hard work and excellence to deserving Civil Servants who has distinguished themselves above the normal call of duty," HOS added.
The Civil Service boss outlined some of the policies and programmes of Gov. Soludo that has benefited the workers to include; the Reconstruction of State Secretariat road, payment of monthly minimum wage of N71000 net pay, prompt payment of workers salaries on the 25th of every month, recruitment of additional 3,115 teachers in 2024, and provision of 'free Wifi'.
Lady Igwegbe further appealed to the governor to tackle some of the issues and challenges facing the Civil Service which she mentioned as; water reticulation in the State Secretariat Complex, improved electricity supply, road maintenance, and the Secretariat Complex building reinforcement among others.
The foremost Civil Servant, then, acknowledged the efforts of the governor in his consistent demonstration of care and dedication to the safety and health of Anambra workers and commended him for always making workers welfare paramount in his administration.
She lauded the governors developmental strides in infrastructures that is ongoing in the state and pledged on behalf of workers of their continued support in all he is doing to enhance the safety, health and wellbeing of Ndi Anambra.
The event also featured Public Service lectures on the the years theme by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Obiageli Uchebo and the presentation of awards to over 30 deserving Civil Servants.
