Armed Forces Day: Gov. Okpebholo Urges Legionnaires to Wear Emblem with Pride

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has officially launched the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem, urging legionnaires to wear it with pride. He also encouraged them to actively participate in all upcoming activities celebrating the program.

The governor made this call during a speech to members of the Nigeria Legion, ex-servicemen, families of fallen heroes, security personnel, and government officials at the Government House on Friday. Okpebholo was represented by Musa Umar Ikhilor, the Secretary to the State Government.

In his address, the governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to fostering peace, security, and unity within the state. "The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by our brave men and women who stood as a defensive wall for the unity of our country," he said.

Okpebholo emphasized the importance of unity in building a society worthy of the sacrifices made by the armed forces, urging citizens to work together beyond ethnic, religious, and tribal differences. He also highlighted the vital role of the armed forces in ensuring national security, stating that the nation’s peace and sovereignty are safeguarded due to their courage and selflessness.

The governor further noted that the launch of the emblem symbolizes the collective commitment to remembering, honoring, and supporting those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the country’s security. He also appealed for greater integration of legionnaires into the state’s security framework, stressing that security is a shared responsibility.

Okpebholo called on the public to support the legionnaires, noting that their contributions are essential for providing care, rehabilitation, and empowerment for both veterans and the families of fallen heroes.

Earlier, Mr. Ignatius Enabulele, Chairman of the Nigeria Legion in Edo State, praised the bravery and dedication of the Nigerian Armed Forces, calling for national unity and an end to violence. "We must celebrate our diversity as our strength," he said.
