Maryland man arrested after disrupting a Christmas Eve service and pouring whiskey in the holy water.
54-year-old Thomas Von Goetz was arrested after 2 separate incidents at 2 Catholic churches on Christmas Eve.
According to reports, Von Goetz entered the Holy Angels Catholic Church at around 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Once inside, he disrupted the services and made his way to the alter where he dropped an onion. A parishioner followed Von Goetz from the building and witnessed him "pelting a church-goer with tangerines".
After making his escape, Von Goetz later showed up to the Midnight Mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Von Goetz poured whiskey into the holy water and began to threaten violence against worshiping parishioners.
A group of parishioners banded together and escorted Von Goetz from the building where he began "attempting to strike them with his whiskey bottle".
The group was able to detain Von Goetz until police arrived and he was taken into custody.
Thomas Von Goetz is being charged with religious crime against a group, obstructing a religious service, threat of mass violence, disorderly conduct, defacing religious property and second degree assault.
