An Indiana high-school girls' basketball game ended in tragedy after a referee collapsed on court.  On the night of December 12th, the girls' basketball team at Monrovia High School was playing Speedway High School. With only 6 minutes left in the second quarter, an emergency halted the game, and fans were evacuated from the gymnasium.  Sadly, a long-time referee, Jeff Tamarri, had collapsed while officiating the game. A defibrillator was reportedly used within a minute of his collapse, and EMTs arrived just moments later. Sadly, despite everyone's best efforts, Jeff was pronounced deceased on scene by EMTs. Monrovia High School said they will have counselors available for students who may be affected by Tamarri's sudden passing. Our thoughts are with the family of Jeff Tamarri as well as the community as a whole.

Nasarawa PoS Operators Launch Task Force to Combat Fraud

The Nasarawa State chapter of the Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria (AMMBAN) has launched a Joint Task Force to address fraud committed by criminal Point of Sale (PoS) agents in the state. The initiative, unveiled at the AMMBAN State Secretariat in Karu Local Government Area, aims to ensure secure and efficient financial services by PoS operators.

Noah Enesata, the state Chairman, emphasized that the task force would collaborate with security agencies and stakeholders to quickly achieve its goals of eliminating financial crimes across Nasarawa's 13 Local Government Areas.

The newly formed task force includes Simon Emeka-Kenneth as Chairman, Salisu Ibrahim as Secretary, and other key members. Enesata highlighted the rising concerns over fraud, including cases where PoS machines were used for illegal activities like theft, kidnapping, and ransom collection.

He also noted that PoS operators should have physical locations for accountability, assuring that AMMBAN will continue to follow Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) guidelines to ensure trustworthy services. The new task force chairman, Simon Emeka-Kenneth, pledged to enforce these guidelines and tackle fraud, urging Governor Abdullahi Sule to work with the CBN to resolve cash shortages in the state.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Jile Modupe-Janet, AMMBAN Chairman of the Abuja branch, and Danjuma Umar, the state’s AMMBAN Treasurer.
