CJN Bans Lawyers, Court Officials to Stop Using ‘Barrister’ as Official Title The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has directed lawyers, court officials and other legal personnel to discontinue the use of “Barrister” as a prefix to their names in all official engagements at the Supreme Court. The directive was contained in a memorandum dated July 13, 2026, and signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabir Akanbi. The circular, which was addressed to litigation staff, legal practitioners, court registrars and lawyers, stated that the directive took immediate effect and was aimed at upholding professional standards within the apex court.  NELFUND Disburses Over N104bn, Projects 2.1 Million Student Beneficiaries


The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed over N104 billion to 613,734 students in tertiary institutions and aims to reach 2.1 million beneficiaries. The Fund’s Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr, highlighted this target during the launch of the SERVICOM unit in Abuja. 


NELFUND continues to provide financial support to students for institutional fees and upkeep loans, with an estimated 400,000 new students expected to register this year. While addressing the needs of out-of-school children is a priority, NELFUND's mandate is limited to tertiary education.
