In response to the shocking abduction of Hon. Justice Azuka, the Member representing Onitsha North 1 in the Anambra State House of Assembly, the Mayor of Onitsha North Local Government Area, Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora, convened an emergency security meeting on Boxing Day.

During the meeting, Mayor Nwora condemned the kidnapping as a reprehensible act, assuring the public that measures have been implemented to ensure the swift and safe return of the abducted lawmaker.

The Mayor highlighted that Onitsha had enjoyed relative peace following previous crackdowns on criminal elements, with significant security measures in place to prevent such incidents.

He reassured law-abiding citizens that his administration is resolutely committed to safeguarding lives and property within the metropolis.

"We are intensifying efforts to forestall any future occurrences and to ensure that Onitsha remains a safe haven for its residents," Mayor Nwora said.

The high-profile meeting included notable stakeholders such as Prince Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security; Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Politics; Patrick Agha Mba, Commissioner for Youth Development; and heads of all security agencies operating in the area.

Key outcomes of the meeting included the launch of "Operation Udo Ga Achi," a special joint task force initiated by Gov. Soludo to rid Anambra State of criminal activities.

The Mayor announced that residents would soon witness the enhanced physical presence of security personnel across the LGA, urging public cooperation with the deployed forces.

While withholding operational details for security reasons, Mayor Nwora assured citizens that relentless efforts were underway to secure Hon. Azuka's release, emphasizing his administration’s non-negotiable commitment to making Onitsha uninhabitable for criminal elements.

"Under my watch, the safety of lives and property in Onitsha remains paramount. I urge everyone to stay calm, continue their daily activities, and trust in the diligent efforts of our security agencies," he affirmed.

The emergency meeting underscores Onitsha North’s unwavering resolve to maintain peace and stability while addressing the growing security challenges within the region.
