 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  NDLEA Anambra State Command Visits Anambra East Mayor

The Chairman, Anambra East LGA, Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze, has emphasized the need to eradicate hard drug abuse in the region during a courtesy visit from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Anambra State Command. 


He urged the NDLEA team to regularly visit the area to combat drug abuse and suggested organizing seminars to educate residents about the dangers of hard drugs.


The Anambra State NDLEA Commander, Mr. Daniel Ogbomna, highlighted the agency's efforts to combat drug abuse in collaboration with local governments. He noted that they are working tirelessly to reduce drug trafficking and abuse, and have established drug-free clubs in schools, organized quiz competitions, and collaborated with community leaders and parents to achieve their goals.


Ogbomna also urged the mayor to support efforts to make Anambra East a drug-free local government area.
