NLC Shuts Down Lagos TV, Radio Stations Over Unpaid Minimum Wage

The Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and workers on Monday disrupted the operations of Lagos Television, Eko FM/Radio Lagos, and Lagos Traffic Radio to protest the failure of the stations' management to implement the N85,000 minimum wage.

In collaboration with the Radio, Television, Theatre, and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), workers picketed the stations and demanded to be placed on the Oracle System.

Earlier, the workers had informed the management that they would down tools if the minimum wage set by the Lagos State Government was not implemented.

The workers blocked the entrances and exits of the Agidingbi complex, carrying placards with slogans like “Give us Oracle and take the revenue generated” and “Pay us Minimum Wage.”

NLC Chairman Funmi Sessi led the protest, emphasizing the peaceful nature of the demonstration. She criticized the management for not implementing the agreed-upon wage and for not paying arrears or the 13th-month salary.

Sessi appealed to Governor Sanwo-Olu to intervene and ensure the workers' demands were met to avoid disruption to services. The NLC pledged to continue the protest until the issue was resolved.
