 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean.  Bill to Empower Polytechnics to Award B.Tech Degrees Passes Second Reading at Reps


A bill seeking to amend the Federal Polytechnics Act (2004) and expand the functions of polytechnics, including granting them the authority to award Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) Honours degrees, has passed its second reading in the House of Representatives.


Hon. Faud Laguda, the bill’s sponsor, stated during Tuesday’s plenary that the amendment aims to broaden the membership of polytechnic councils by including representatives from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN).


The proposed amendments also seek to:

Enhance polytechnics' administrative structures for better efficiency.

Raise the qualifications required for the position of Rector.

Expand the powers of the Academic Board to award B.Tech degrees.


Laguda emphasized that the bill is designed to modernize polytechnic education in Nigeria, ensuring it aligns with global best practices while enhancing technical education for students.
