Tanzania closes Nduta camp housing thousands of Burundi refugees Tanzania has closed a camp housing thousands of Burundian refugees and repatriated all but a handful, activists and the United Nations said. Burundian refugees have complained in recent months of being forcibly evicted from the Nduta camp in northwestern Tanzania, following a deal between the governments in Dar Es Salaam and Bujumbura to repatriate around 100,000 of them by June. As of late 2025, there were an estimated 142,000 Burundian refugees housed in two Tanzanian camps - Nduta and Nyarugusu, according to the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR). "The approximately 3,000 refugees who remained in the (Nduta) camp were forcibly loaded onto vehicles to be sent back to Burundi on Thursday," the Coalition for Human Rights/Living in Refugee Camps (CDH/VICAR) said, AFP reported.  I want to defeat Tinubu, others in 2027 — Sowore

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 and 2023 general elections, Omoyele Sowore, has expressed his determination to win the 2027 general elections against President Bola Tinubu and others.

The human rights activist and pro-democracy campaigner stated this on Saturday while speaking with journalists at the 2025 and the 3rd ECOWAS-Abuja International Marathon.

He said the race he is looking forward to win will happen soon and is the one that will involve President Bola Tinubu and others where he will claim the ultimate prize.

Sowore, who also participated in the 5km race, said Nigeria has a lot to gain by tapping into sports which can bring as much as earnings that the oil is bringing to the economy. He commended every runner for displaying the spirit of participation while urging the government to invest in other sports like swimming, snooker, javelin, shot put and others.

“Everybody that ran here is high-profile. It takes a lot of energy to run 5km. I think I know what you mean. One of the people who should be on the high table but running. I think I didn’t want to win because I want others to win. I just want to participate.

“The race I want to win is happening soon. The race in which you put me, Tinubu and others and I can collect this prize. We see who wins in that one.

“The spirit is participation and that is the most important. We did Lagos some two weeks ago and this is Abuja. And that every town, city, every village would have marathon race.

“Instead of going after oil and sharing oil money, maybe people should invest more in sports in every sector. Running, swimming, snooker, javelin, shot put. We can even do Winter Olympics. You know Nigerians can do anything and that is why we deserve better leaders that we have here,” Sowore said.
