 LAGOS RE-INTRODUCES MONTHLY ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION EXERCISE …Governor, Deputy lead State officials to clean up Mushin corridor Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday, announced the re-introduction of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation in the State. The Governor said the exercise will hold every last Saturday of the Month between the hours of 6:30am and 8:30am but without movement restrictions. He stressed that the exercise would be monitored by State officials with appropriate sanctions to be meted out to erring neighbourhoods and markets. Sanwo-Olu made the pronouncement during a ceremony held in Olosa Bus Stop in Mushin which marked the symbolic flag-off of the monthly sanitation. The Governor, who led his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and member of the State cabinet on the mission, said the culture of environmental responsibility must be imbibed by the residents across all communities in the state and reflect same in their lifestyle. NBA CONDEMNS RIVERS ASSEMBLY'S PROBE OF CHIEF JUDGE, CAUTIONS AGAINST HARASSMENT. (PHOTO).

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has strongly condemned the Rivers State House of Assembly's resolution to investigate the state's Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, over alleged age falsification. The NBA views this move as a deliberate attempt to drag the judiciary into the ongoing political crisis between the executive and legislative arms of government in the state.


Tamunosiki Roberts, Chairman of the NBA's Okrika Branch, emphasized the need to protect judicial independence and adhere to democratic principles in resolving disputes. He warned that such actions could destabilize the state, recalling the 2014-2015 judicial crisis in Rivers that led to the closure of courts for nearly a year.


The NBA reiterated that the independence of the judiciary is crucial to maintaining peace and stability in the state. Any attempt to intimidate or blackmail judicial officers could lead to chaos, which the state cannot afford.


Mrs. Cordelia Eke, Chairman of the NBA's Port Harcourt branch, stressed that disciplinary matters involving judicial officers fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the National Judicial Council, not the legislature or security agencies. She urged security agencies to operate within the law and avoid being used as political tools.


The NBA has called on all political actors to de-escalate tensions and prioritize the peace and economic stability of Rivers State and Nigeria at large. The association warned against any attempt to intimidate and urged all parties involved in the ongoing political crisis to seek peaceful resolutions in the interest of the state and the nation.
