 Anambra to go after houses without proper drainage in order to combat Erosion  Worried by the rising menace of gully erosion, the Anambra State Government has threatened to enforce regulations requiring residents to provide proper drainage for storm water from their homes. The State Executive Council (ANSEC), which announced the proposed enforcement, lamented that erosion remains an existential challenge in Anambra, blaming the situation on careless actions by some communities and lapses by regulatory bodies in enforcing environmental laws. Briefing journalists after the weekly executive council meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said it had been observed that some residents channel storm water from their homes directly onto roads, where it accumulates and worsens the erosion crisis across the state. “ANSEC has resolved to step up enforcement to compel residents to properly channel and manage storm water from their houses.  Tragedy Strikes Abia Community as Banished Commercial Motorcyclist Meets Untimely Death


A devastating incident has shaken the Obuoro community in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, following the murder of a commercial motorcyclist, Mr. Okezie Onyema Onyendu. The victim, who was allegedly banished by his community over a land dispute, succumbed to injuries sustained from a brutal attack on March 7, 2025.


According to reports, Onyendu was assaulted at Amawom village, where his attackers severed one of his ears and stole his motorcycle, phone, and earnings. His widow, Mrs. Ogechi Okezie, claims that her husband's murder was a result of a conspiracy within their community.


Mrs. Okezie revealed that her husband was banished in February 2024 for refusing to relinquish his land to a distant relative. Despite taking the matter to court, with a hearing scheduled for March 12, Onyendu's life was brutally cut short.


The Abia State Police Command has confirmed that the incident was reported to the Police Area Command in Umuahia, and investigations are ongoing. The community is demanding justice for the late Okezie Onyema Onyendu, calling for a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding his tragic death.
