ABIA GOVT TO ENFORCE COMMERCIAL VEHICLE REGISTRATION.(PHOTO).

The Abia State Government has announced plans to strictly enforce the registration of commercial vehicles operating within the state. This decision was made known by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, during a briefing with journalists on the outcome of the executive council meeting.

According to Prince Kanu, the registration of commercial vehicles is still ongoing, and those yet to comply are encouraged to do so. The state government has been working to sanitize the transport sector, and this initiative is part of those efforts.

In addition to the enforcement of commercial vehicle registration, the state government has also completed five road projects under the direct Labour initiative. These projects include:

- Road Repairs: 19.5km Umuahia-Bende road, phase 1 and 2

- Maintenance Work: 1.76 KM Igbere junction to Onu roundabout

- Reconstruction: 2.5Km Umuokogbuo road

- Rehabilitation: 8.3 Isieketa-Obikabia road Isialangwa South LGA and the Obehie-Ezendioma road Ukwa west LGA

Governor Alex Otti is expected to flag off the total reconstruction of the Umuahia-Bende road in the coming months, based on expert recommendations.

Prince Kanu also announced the release of a prominent businessman who was kidnapped in Ukwa a few weeks ago. He advised Abians, including traditional rulers and town union leaders, to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements involving criminal elements to security agents.

The state government has warned that traditional rulers found harboring criminals in their domains will be treated as accomplices.
