 Catholic priest reportedly klled in Kogi  A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, has been reportedly killed by unknown assailants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. According to reports, the priest was stabbed multiple times along Ajaokuta road on Wednesday, 29th July 2026. His body was found dumped at the roadside.  Rev. Fr. Oyetoro was born in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State and a native of Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area.  Until his death, he served as a priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Egbe.  INEC Chair Urges African Youths to Champion Peaceful Elections


Chairman of Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has called on African youths to promote peaceful and credible elections across the continent.


Speaking during a lecture at The Gambia’s Civil Service University on Tuesday, Yakubu stressed the critical role of young people in electoral processes, urging them to act with integrity and patriotism.


“Young people form the backbone of election duty staff,” he noted, warning against malpractice, misinformation, and fake news.


Yakubu was later honoured with a Certificate of Appreciation by the university for his contributions to democracy in West Africa.
