Joke Silva Reveals Why She Kept Maiden Name After Marriage to Olu Jacobs

Nollywood icon Joke Silva has disclosed that she retained her maiden name after marrying veteran actor Olu Jacobs on the advice of her husband, who emphasized the importance of preserving her professional brand identity. The 62-year-old actress shared this insight during a recent episode of the Leadership podcast, hosted by Stephen Akintayo.

When asked why she did not adopt her husband’s surname, Silva explained that Jacobs encouraged her to continue using “Joke Silva” to avoid disrupting her established brand. “He understood the importance of branding,” she said. “My brand had started building as Joke Silva, and changing brands several years after could cause problems for me.”

Silva noted that while she maintained her professional name, her identity as Mrs. Jacobs was widely recognized within industry and social circles. “It [changing my last name] really didn’t matter,” she added, underscoring the mutual understanding that shaped their decision.
