YORUBA TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA, LAGOS CHAPTER, CELEBRATES OUTGOING TG/PS, MRS. ANIKE ADEKANYE

The Yoruba Teachers' Association of Nigeria (Ẹgbẹ Akomọlẹdẹ àti Àṣà Yorùbá), Lagos State Chapter, held a colourful ceremony to celebrate the outgoing Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) of Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye.

The event, which took place at the Immaculate Heart Comprehensive High School Hall, Maryland, was attended by dignitaries, cultural performers, educators, and students including the Lagos State Chairman of the Yoruba Teachers' Association, Prince Aderemi Adeyemi, along with members of the Elders-in-Council, led by Asiwaju Olasunkanmi Tella.

Prince Adeyemi delivered heartfelt tributes to Mrs. Adekanye for her years of meritorious service, describing her as a great influencer who opened doors for the development of the Association. "She has served with dignity, purpose, and grace. Her legacy will continue to guide and promote the Yoruba language and heritage in our schools," he added.

On his part, Elder Olasunkanmi Tella remarked that he had never met anyone as richly blessed as the celebrant, describing her as a humble and exemplary leader who remains a true ambassador of Yoruba culture and tradition.

"Mrs. Adekanye is not only an administrator but a beacon of Yoruba culture and values in the education sector. Her passion for excellence is unmatched," said Elder Olasunkanmi Tella.

Mrs. Funke Sorinola, a retired Principal and former Lagos State Chairman of the Association (2004), noted that the virtues of Mrs. Adekanye are numerous and far-reaching, having greatly impacted many lives.

"Those who are ignorant of greatness will call it ordinary. When we see destined greatness, let us acknowledge it, name it, and let the world know that we saw something extraordinary. Anike Adekanye is an extraordinary person - very kind, respectful, honest, and a lover of all, irrespective of tribe, race, religion, or profession," she said.

Another member of the Association, Mrs. Adebola Lawal, praised the indelible mark Mrs. Adekanye has left on both the Association and the state. She added that Mrs. Adekanye, when she was the Chairperson of Mainland Local Government or as TG/PS, has always led with humility and service.

In a lecture titled "Positive Role Modelling," Mrs. Afolashade Abolarinwa, a retired Principal, highlighted the exemplary traits of Mrs. Adekanye, which she said have earned her widespread recognition and awards, including being named the Best Outstanding TG/PS in the State.

In her emotional response, Mrs. Adekanye thanked the Association for the great honour, saying, "It is humbling to be celebrated by those with whom I have shared this beautiful journey. I will continue to champion the Yoruba language, our values, and our youth."

The event concluded with the symbolic presentation of gifts and the cutting of the celebration cake, marking a memorable farewell to a trailblazer in education and cultural advocacy.
