Kaduna Among Safest States In Nigeria – Says Gov. Uba Sani
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has described the state as one of the safest in Nigeria, attributing the achievement to sustained collaboration between government and traditional institutions.
Speaking during the official handover of 23 vehicles to traditional rulers—an initiative facilitated by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas—the governor highlighted the absence of ethno-religious crises since his administration began in May 2023.
Governor Sani credited the success of the state’s non-kinetic security strategy to the proactive roles played by traditional leaders, particularly in intelligence gathering and community engagement.
“Our traditional leaders have been instrumental in maintaining peace. They work tirelessly with security agencies, staying connected to grassroots communities. This synergy is why our non-kinetic approach to security is yielding results,” he said.
He emphasized that the vehicles were provided to motivate traditional rulers and enhance their ability to maintain peace and security across their domains.
“These vehicles are not for luxury—they’re tools to strengthen our collective efforts. Security cannot be achieved without close cooperation among traditional rulers, religious leaders, community heads, and security agencies,” Sani added.
The governor also praised Speaker Abbas for the gesture and called for continued collaboration among political officeholders. He cited his own track record as a senator, where he attracted over N20 billion in development projects to the state, including the ongoing N12 billion Faculty of Engineering project at Kaduna State University.
“Though we couldn’t complete it before I left the Senate, Kaduna’s son and Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Mohammed Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, is now working with the Speaker to ensure its completion. That’s the synergy we need,” he noted.
Speaker Abbas, in his remarks, stated that the vehicle distribution was part of a broader plan to empower traditional leaders and reinforce their peacebuilding roles.
“This initiative stems from shared commitments between myself and the governor. The vehicles, provided through SMEDAN, represent the fourth phase of our support program,” Abbas said.
He explained that 23 vehicles were distributed, building on previous allocations during Ramadan to emirs, district heads, and senior traditional figures in Zaria.
“These are not ceremonial cars—they are working vehicles meant to help our traditional rulers reach every part of their territories and uphold peace and security,” he stated.
Abbas also disclosed that the initiative has been included in the 2025 federal budget, with plans for further vehicle distributions and palace renovations across all three senatorial zones.
“Renovation work is already underway in 11 local government areas, and over 10 emirates and district heads have benefited in the past year,” he revealed.
Looking ahead, Abbas confirmed that the ongoing constitutional amendment process would propose a formal governance role for traditional rulers.
“We are committed to ensuring that traditional rulers have a prominent place in Nigeria’s governance structure starting from 2026,” he concluded.
