 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean.  NSC Boss Olopade steals spotlight at SWAN Novelty Match, Rewards Sports Journalists


 The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Chief Bukola Olopade, delivered a standout performance both on and off the field during the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Novelty Match held at the 2024 Gateway Games in Abeokuta. The friendly football match, organized by SWAN as part of the ongoing multi-sport festival, brought together journalists, stakeholders, and sports enthusiasts in a symbolic display of unity and appreciation for the role of sports journalism in Nigeria’s development.


In a rare but spirited move, Chief Olopade participated in both halves of the game—first lining up for the Southern Team before switching sides to the Northern Team, who eventually emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win. His participation drew cheers from the crowd and highlighted his enduring passion for grassroots sports development. Speaking after the match, the NSC boss applauded SWAN for its commitment to elevating sports discourse through professional and impactful reporting.


“I had fun,” Olopade said. “This was the most exciting novelty match I’ve attended. I saw real unity and passion among the journalists. Sports is life, and it deserves the spotlight in our media spaces.” He emphasized the critical role sports journalism plays in promoting national unity and development, urging media outlets to give sports the visibility it deserves in mainstream news coverage.


In a show of appreciation and encouragement, Olopade announced ₦2 million in incentives for the two participating teams and handed out dollar rewards to standout performers, including the best goalkeeper of the match. The atmosphere remained festive long after the final whistle, with laughter, camaraderie, and sportsmanship defining the day making it a memorable highlight of the Gateway Games.
