Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has advised suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to be transparent with President Bola Tinubu about his intentions, rather than making contradictory statements and actions. The counsel was issued in a statement by Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, on Saturday.
Wike criticized Fubara’s approach to seeking peace amid their ongoing political rivalry, stating, “It is not enough to be visiting people to plead for peace; those who genuinely want peace work and act for it.” He accused Fubara’s allies of undermining peace efforts by sponsoring insults against President Tinubu, his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and others. “All those shenanigans won’t bring peace, and I am sure they know that, because they are not sincere with their up and down pleadings for peace,” Wike added.
The minister also condemned a walkout by a group of women, allegedly loyal to Fubara, during the Renewed Hope Initiative empowerment programme organized by the First Lady’s office in Port Harcourt on Friday. The event aimed to provide empowerment items to 500 women in Rivers State. Describing the incident as a “show of shame,” Wike apologized to Senator Oluremi Tinubu and President Tinubu, stating, “Insult on anyone representing the First Lady of Nigeria in an event is a direct insult on the office of the President and Commander-In-Chief.”
Wike, currently on official engagements in China, called the walkout “very disturbing and embarrassing” and urged Fubara’s supporters to refrain from actions that ridicule Rivers State. He emphasized that such conduct does not reflect the character and ideals of the state’s people, offering an apology on their behalf.
