Abia Governor’s Wife Advocates Enhanced Welfare, Skills Training for Prison Inmates

Mrs. Priscilla Otti, wife of the Abia State Governor, has pledged to expand skills acquisition and empowerment programs for inmates at the Nigeria Correctional Facility in Afara, Umuahia. During a visit to the facility, she addressed inmates, including female prisoners, urging them to remain hopeful, engage in self-reflection, and take steps toward a brighter future.

Mrs. Otti emphasized that correctional facilities should serve as centers for renewal and transformation, not as endpoints. She highlighted the importance of rehabilitation through skills development to ensure successful societal reintegration post-release.

She further revealed that the current administration is collaborating with the Abia State Ministry of Justice, legal aid organizations, and civil society groups to improve access to justice for inmates lacking legal representation. This initiative forms part of a broader justice reform agenda focused on rehabilitation over rejection.

The Controller of the Abia State Correctional Headquarters, CP Mrs. Josephine Ogbeifun, welcomed the delegation and expressed gratitude for Mrs. Otti’s timely support for both inmates and staff.
