Anambra Renames Government House ‘Light House Awka,’ Moves to Seize Buildings Housing Child Beggars

Awka, Nigeria – June 3, 2025: The Anambra State Government has officially renamed its newly inaugurated Government House Mini City to “Light House Awka,” aligning with the state’s slogan, “Light of the Nation.” The decision was announced following the 10th Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) meeting held on Monday, June 2, 2025, at the new administrative complex in Awka.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, Commissioner for Information Law Mefor detailed the outcomes of the meeting, the third to be convened in the new Government House. He described the renaming as the result of extensive deliberations to select a fitting title for the expansive facility, which Governor Chukwuma Soludo has hailed as “a functional centre of governance.” The council also aimed to establish the project as a lasting legacy of the Soludo administration, focusing on restoring societal values and reshaping Anambra’s moral and social structures.

In a significant policy move, ANSEC resolved to enforce the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025 by sealing and confiscating premises used to house child beggars, signaling a crackdown on exploitative practices. Additionally, the council approved the immediate establishment of the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission, as mandated by the recently passed Anambra State Electricity Law, and launched a recruitment drive for experts to join the new commission.

The statement also highlighted the success of the Special International Children’s Day celebration on May 27, 2025, at Solution Fun City, commending the children for their exemplary conduct.

ANSEC further approved several capital projects to boost infrastructural development, including:

- Construction of a factory warehouse for pharmaceutical-grade kaolin processing at the Kaolin Plant in Ukpor, awarded to Strata Projects Ltd for ₦190,482,467.94, with an eight-week completion timeline.

- Extension of the Nnewi Industrial line and installation of a 750 KVA transformer at the Kaolin Plant, awarded to Zamlic Ventures Ltd for ₦110,114,510.60, to be completed in six weeks.

- Procurement and supply of uniforms and operational gear for Ocha Brigade, awarded to Analiro Enterprises Ltd for ₦155,653,550.00.

These initiatives reflect Anambra’s commitment to good governance, infrastructure development, and social reform under the Soludo administration.
