Parent Allegedly Hires Thugs to Assault Vice Principal Over WAEC Exam Crackdown

Suspected thugs, reportedly hired by a parent, brutally assaulted the Vice Principal of Complete Child Development College, Aule, Akure, Mr. Rotifa, for preventing a student from cheating during the ongoing West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams.

According to a preliminary report from the Ondo State Ministry of Education, the incident began on May 26 when Mr. Rotifa confiscated an android phone from an SS3 student, violating exam regulations. On Thursday, the student’s mother confronted the school management, prompting the school’s proprietor to return the phone to her.

Tensions escalated when the student’s brother, a former student of the school, harassed and threatened Mr. Rotifa. Later that day, after school hours, the boys were seen loitering in the area. The school’s proprietor advised Mr. Rotifa to report the threat to the police. Accompanied by two officers in a police van, Mr. Rotifa searched for the suspects but could not locate them.

On their way back to the station, the suspected thugs ambushed the police van, forcibly removed Mr. Rotifa, and beat him severely. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment and has since been discharged but remains in hiding due to fears of further attacks.

The state government’s investigation, led by the Director of Schools, is ongoing, with efforts to apprehend the culprits and ensure the safety of staff and students during the remaining WAEC exams. Attempts to reach the school’s principal for comment were unsuccessful.
