A SOUTH CAROLINA GRANDMOTHER IS FACING CHARGES AFTER TELLING HER 12-YEAR-OLD GRANDDAUGHTER TO SWIM FOR HELP IN DANGEROUS CONDITIONS. (PHOTO).

A South Carolina grandmother is facing charges after telling her 12-year-old granddaughter to swim for help in dangerous conditions.

We will preface this story by assuring you that the young girl was found and although she suffered scrapes and cuts, she is otherwise unharmed.

53-year-old Anne Lachel is facing charges of unlawful conduct towards a minor. These charges stem from a July 1st incident at the Bushy Parking Boat Landing.

On that day, Berkeley County Sheriff's Deputies were called to the report of a missing 12-year-old girl. The call for help was made by Anne Sellers, who told deputies she and her granddaughter had become stranded when their jet skis had broken down. Sellers told deputies her granddaughter had attempted to swim for help, and she was now missing.

The deputies quickly swung into action, calling in help from multiple other agencies. A combined effort utilizing marine vessels and drones were able to locate the young girl.

She was discovered in a marshy area around 500 yards from the boat ramp. The young girl was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for cuts and scrapes she had suffered as a result of her ordeal.

Further questioning revealed Anne Sellers had lied during her original statement. Deputies were able to determine the two had set out on separate jet skis. While on the water, both jet skis had malfunctioned causing Sellers and her granddaughter to be stranded.  It was at this point that Sellers directed her granddaughter to swim for help, despite there being very high winds and a strong current. Due to these adverse conditions... the young girl became disoriented and lost in the water.

Sheriff Duane Lewis said the young girl was lucky to be alive and condemned Sellers decision as careless. He went on to say she had not only put her granddaughter's life at risk but also the lives of first responders who participated in the rescue mission calling her actions "unacceptable and criminally negligent".

Anne Sellers was arrested and booked into Hill-Finkles Detention Center
