Enyimba FC Slams Brown Ideye for Misleading Claims, Defends Club’s Integrity

Enyimba Football Club has issued a strong condemnation of former player Brown Ideye, accusing him of making misleading and unprofessional public statements that aim to tarnish the reputation of Nigeria’s most successful football club and the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). The club expressed disappointment over Ideye’s remarks, describing them as a distortion of truth at a time when the NPFL is earning regional and international acclaim for its ongoing transformation.

In a statement released by the club’s Media Department, Enyimba detailed the preferential treatment Ideye received during his tenure, including a ₦1 million monthly salary—making him one of the club’s highest earners—luxury hotel accommodation costing ₦65,000 per night, air travel for away games, and personal respect befitting his status as a former Super Eagles striker. These privileges, widely reported in the media and discussed on SuperSports’ “NAIJA-MADE” program, were extended despite initial reservations from the coaching staff.

The club criticized Ideye for failing to meet expectations, noting that he scored only five goals across all competitions and allegedly caused division in the dressing room, undermining team cohesion. Enyimba dismissed Ideye’s recent claims of poor player welfare as “grossly misleading,” highlighting the transparent bonus structure under Chairman Kanu Nwankwo’s leadership, which includes double bonuses for wins and personal incentives of up to ₦1 million.

“It is unacceptable that a player who benefited immensely from this club’s goodwill would seek to tear it down in the public eye, especially when he never raised these issues while enjoying VIP wages,” the statement read. The club suggested that Ideye’s silence during his tenure and his sudden criticism reflect a self-serving agenda.

Enyimba called on former Nigerian players to support the growth of local football rather than discrediting the platforms that offer them opportunities. “This is a time for returning players to encourage others to contribute meaningfully, not to betray the principles of integrity and gratitude,” the club stated.

Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and the advancement of Nigerian football, Enyimba assured fans, stakeholders, and the NPFL community that it would not be swayed by “noise or revisionist agendas.” The club vowed to continue its progress with “dignity and pride” as the “People’s Elephant.”

The statement was signed by the Enyimba FC Media Department.
