Nigeria Records 5,400 Kidnappings, 6,800 Deaths in Six Months — Zamfara Leads as Most Affected State

Nigeria has witnessed a disturbing spike in insecurity, with over 5,400 people kidnapped and 6,800 killed in the first six months of 2025, according to a recent report. Zamfara State tops the list as the hardest-hit region in the country.

The data, compiled by an independent security tracker, reveals that Zamfara alone recorded the highest number of abductions and killings, largely due to rampant banditry and insurgent attacks. Other severely impacted states include Kaduna, Niger, Borno, and Plateau.

The surge in violence has sparked nationwide concern, with security analysts warning that the deteriorating situation could undermine public confidence and democratic processes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Civil society groups and concerned citizens have renewed their calls for the federal government to adopt a more robust, intelligence-driven approach to tackling insecurity and safeguarding lives across Nigeria.
