Osun Politics Heats Up: Aregbesola defends legacy, slams Adeleke

Former Minister of Interior and ex-governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has responded to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent statement that labeled his administration as the “worst in Osun’s history,” PM has gathered.

Earlier that Gov. adeleke slammed Aregbesola, saying his tenure was riddled with maladministration and corruption.

However, Aregbesola, through his media aide Ileowo Kikiowo, has  criticized the governor’s comment, saying it was an attempt to curry favor from the presidency amid defection rumour.

He said that attacking others does not help the people of the state, but rather shows desperation.

He highlighted his achievements while in office, including:

Lowest unemployment, poverty, and crime rates in Nigeria during his tenure (as reported by the NBS and UNDP).

Construction of over 1,200 km of roads, including 600 km of rural roads.

Building 3,685 new classrooms.

Support for over 27,000 small businesses.

Empowerment of 60,000 youths through the OYES program.

Over 700,000 people lifted out of poverty.

1.59 million jobs created.

No mass retrenchment of civil servants during tough times.

Aregbesola’s team stressed that his leadership was focused on the well-being of the people.

Another of his aides, Sola Fasure, also criticized Governor Adeleke.

He claimed Adeleke’s attack was aimed at gaining acceptance into the All Progressives Congress (APC), though Adeleke has denied plans to join the party ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

Fasure posted on Facebook, “A new low: Attacking Aregbesola to be accepted by APC. I’m not sure they still want you!”

Earlier, Adeleke had claimed that Osun State is still suffering from the negative effects of Aregbesola’s administration, claiming he left the state in ruins.

He added that Aregbesola had threatened to remove him from office in 2026.

Speculations are flying high that Gov. Adeleke is making plans to defect to the APC ahead of the 2026 Gubernatorial election in the state.
