Akwa Ibom Governor Pledges Support for Embattled Passenger and Ibom Air After Altercation

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced plans to provide support for Comfort Emmanson, an indigene of the state involved in a recent altercation with Ibom Air, the state-owned airline. The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to backing the airline, emphasizing its importance to the state.

Speaking at a grand reception in his home local government area, Nsit Ubium, on Saturday, Governor Eno urged Akwa Ibom residents not to engage in blame games regarding the incident between Emmanson and Ibom Air. “The lady is our daughter, and Ibom Air is our flagship airline. Both belong to Akwa Ibom State, and we should support them,” he stated, without disclosing specific details of the planned support.

The incident in question involved a confrontation between Emmanson and Ibom Air crew members, leading to her remand. She was later pardoned by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo. In a subsequent interview, Emmanson revealed that the ordeal left her traumatized, limiting her ability to move freely or interact with others due to public exposure.

Governor Eno described the incident as a “small mistake” and called for unity, discouraging residents from joining detractors in criticizing either party. “Our money is invested in Ibom Air, so you should be proud of the airline. If there was any crisis, we will solve the problem,” he said, adding, “When two people fight, there is always a third person to separate the fight.”

The governor’s remarks underscore his administration’s commitment to resolving the issue amicably while promoting pride in Ibom Air, which he described as a symbol of Akwa Ibom’s progress.
