 DG NEMA Takes Disaster Risk Reduction Awareness To Primary School Pupils in Abuja The Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has visited LEA Primary School, Durumi, Abuja where she engaged pupils in an interactive session on disaster prevention and safety awareness. The visit which formed part of NEMA’s ongoing efforts to promote disaster risk reduction education among young Nigerians and build a culture of safety from an early age. A statement by Manzo Ezekiel, Head, Press Unit indicates that while addressing the pupils, Mrs. Zubaida Umar emphasized the importance of basic safety habits and simple disaster mitigation measures that children can adopt both at home and in school. She taught the pupils practical steps to reduce risks associated with common emergencies such as fire outbreaks, flooding, and unsafe play environments.  The Director General encouraged them to be safety conscious, remain alert to potential dangers in their surroundings, and promptly report hazar...

 Anambra Govt, FG/IFAD-VCDP Empower Disability Cooperative in Ezira Community with Market Infrastructure

The Anambra State Government, in partnership with the Federal Government’s IFAD/Value Chain Development Programme, has recently commissioned and handed over newly built market infrastructure (stores and Stalls) to members of Ezira Community Disability Cooperative in Orumba South Local Government Area.


This significant achievement marks a milestone in the collaboration between state and federal entities to support local initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods for people with disabilities.


The State Coordinator of IFAD/VCDP, Dr. Deborah Onyefulu said, "It is the first of its kind as the Programme hands over a market infrastructure to People with Disabilities since they were prioritized. 


She explained that the cooperative met all the necessary criteria to benefit, adding that the new facilities will help members generate income, sell their farm produce, and support the community's old market structures.


Dr. Onyefulu commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration for supporting the VCDP initiatives and called for stronger collaboration between the community, stakeholders, and the cooperative to ensure proper use and sustainability of the market while promising of toilet facility for the market.


The President General of Ezira Community, Mr. Moses Akam while pledging the community’s commitment to partner with the cooperative in maintaining, securing, and fully utilizing the facilities, thanked the State Government and FG/IFAD-VCDP for the inclusiveness. 


He also appealed for more of such projects to address the needs of the people.


Speaking on behalf of the physically challenged beneficiaries, Mrs. Florence Udo expressed gratitude to Governor Soludo for his inclusive leadership and to FG/IFAD-VCDP for empowering them through ownership of the market. 


She noted that the project will allow them to participate fully in economic activities and build financial independence like other citizens.
