Deeper Life Church Revises Marriage Guidelines, Pastor Kumuyi Emphasizes Flexibility

Pastor William Kumuyi, General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, announced significant changes to the church’s marriage regulations during the 2025 Global Family and Marriage Conference, clarifying that these rules are administrative guidelines, not divine mandates.

In a bid to distinguish between biblical commandments and church policies, Pastor Kumuyi nullified the long-standing restriction prohibiting women from visiting their prospective husbands during courtship. He stated that intending couples may now visit each other, provided an elder accompanies them, to foster better understanding before marriage.

The church’s traditional six-month courtship period was also addressed, with Kumuyi noting it is not a biblical requirement but a practical suggestion. “Six months is all right, but it’s not inflexible,” he said, explaining that the timeline was set to allow couples time to know each other but could be adjusted, as it is not rooted in scripture.

Pastor Kumuyi further cautioned marriage committees against overstepping their roles, emphasizing that they exist to guide, not control, members. “There’s no marriage committee in the New Testament. It’s church administration, not divine law,” he remarked, urging leaders to avoid imposing undue authority.

These changes mark a pivotal shift in Deeper Life’s approach to marriage practices, reflecting Pastor Kumuyi’s call for scriptural clarity and flexibility in church traditions.
