Soludo Confirms Prof. Kate Omenugha as Substantive Vice Chancellor of COOU

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has officially appointed Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU). The appointment was formalized during a ceremony at the Light House in Awka, where the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, presented Omenugha with her appointment letter.

The announcement was made public on Wednesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, in a statement highlighting Omenugha’s exemplary leadership. “Professor Omenugha’s confirmation follows her outstanding performance as Acting Vice Chancellor, a period characterized by positive institutional changes and visionary leadership that has positioned COOU for greater academic excellence and innovation,” Aburime stated.

Omenugha, who has served as Acting Vice Chancellor since 2023, emerged as the substantive appointee after a rigorous interview process, reflecting Governor Soludo’s commitment to merit-based appointments. The delay in appointing a permanent Vice Chancellor was attributed to the absence of a fully constituted Governing Council. Following the recent reconstitution of the council, chaired by Professor Chidi Odinkalu, the selection process commenced, culminating in Omenugha’s appointment.

The confirmation underscores the state government’s dedication to ensuring COOU’s continued growth under capable leadership. Professor Omenugha is expected to further drive the university’s academic and innovative advancements in her new role.
