 ANAMBRA POLICE COMMAND RECEIVES AND AUGMENTS IGP’S MONITORING UNIT OPERATIVES ON ENFORCEMENT OF POLICE PERSONNEL WITHDRAWAL FROM VIP ESCORT DUTIES IN THE STATE The Anambra State Police Command today 8th December 2025 formally received operatives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP)’s Monitoring Unit deployed to the state to ensure full implementation of the IGP’s directive on the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties. The Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc mnips PhD reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting the IGP’s reform efforts targeted at enhancing professionalism, discipline, and optimal deployment of police manpower nationwide. The CP noted that the withdrawal of these officers will help to strengthen public policing, improve response capacity, and ensure that more personnel are available for core policing duties across the state.  Nine People Rescued In Tudun Lona, Sokoto State Canoe Incident 


Nine passengers have been rescued and a body of a 29-year-old man was recovered while an 80-year-old woman is still missing in a Thursday boat disaster

 at Tudun Lona Jaranja River in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto state. 

The Thursday boat disaster marked the third in two weeks in the state. It was reported that the canoe was conveying eleven passengers before it capsized. 


Officials of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) alongside community volunteers, are coordinating efforts to recover the missing victim as search and rescue operations continue.


This third canoe mishap within two weeks in Sokoto has sparked concern over safety of riverine transportation and the urgent need for enforcement of regulation and preventive measures.


Authorities have assured that investigations are ongoing and communities advised to adhere to safety guidelines particularly the use of life jackets and overloading to avert further loss of lives on the waterways.
