Sean 'Diddy' Combs increases defamation damages, seeks $100M in new court filing

Sean “Diddy” Combs has amended his ongoing defamation lawsuit to seek $100 million in damages, doubling the amount sought in his original filing. The suit, filed in New York’s Southern District, targets Courtney Burgess, attorney Ariel Mitchell, and NewsNation parent Nexstar, alleging they spread false claims about Combs’ involvement in sex parties that reportedly included celebrities and underage individuals. Combs’ attorneys say the interviews with Burgess and Mitchell, aired on NewsNation, presented fabricated footage and “outlandish claims” that damaged Combs’ reputation and fueled a media frenzy.

The lawsuit specifically cites an October interview with Burgess and a September interview with Mitchell in which they discussed alleged videos of Combs sexually assaulting celebrities, some of whom they claimed were minors. Combs’ team says the interviews, which also referenced his late ex-wife Kim Porter, amplified false narratives and falsely suggested proof of illegal acts. The complaint accuses NewsNation of giving the defendants a mainstream platform to spread lies for profit. The suit comes months after Combs’ federal trial on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution, which resulted in convictions on lesser charges, and while efforts continue to secure his release before sentencing on October 3.
