Singer Chike Sparks Controversy, Calls Marriage a “Stupid Step”

Nigerian singer and songwriter Chike Osebuka, popularly known as Chike, has stirred debate with his recent remarks dismissing marriage as a “stupid step.” The artist, known for his soulful hits and romantic ballads, revealed that he has no plans to tie the knot anytime soon.

In an interview on Friday, Chike made the bold statement while discussing his personal life and career priorities. “It’s a stupid step to get married,” he said, sparking mixed reactions among fans and the public. The singer did not elaborate on the reasons behind his stance but emphasized that his focus remains on his music and personal growth.

Chike’s comments have ignited discussions on social media, with some fans expressing support for his choice to prioritize his career, while others criticized the singer for downplaying the institution of marriage. “Chike is entitled to his opinion, but calling marriage ‘stupid’ is a bit harsh,” one user commented on X. Another fan defended him, stating, “He’s just being honest about where he’s at in life. Not everyone is ready for marriage.”

The singer, whose hits like *Running (To You)* and *Roju* have earned him a massive following, has often been private about his personal relationships. His remarks come at a time when he is preparing for the release of his upcoming album, which he teased will explore themes of love, self-discovery, and independence.

Industry insiders suggest that Chike’s statement may be a reflection of his current focus on his craft rather than a blanket rejection of marriage. “Chike is at the peak of his career, and it’s understandable that he wants to channel his energy into his music,” said a Lagos-based music analyst.

As of press time, Chike had not responded to the backlash or provided further clarification on his comments. The controversy has, however, kept the singer trending online, with fans eagerly awaiting his next move both in music and in addressing the ongoing debate.
