 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean. Taribo West: I Won’t Let My Son Visit Nigeria


Former Super Eagles defender Taribo West expressed that he would never advise his son to visit Nigeria due to how the country treats its football heroes posthumously.


In a video shared by News Central on Friday, while speaking at the funeral of former goalkeeper Peter Rufai, the ex-Inter Milan star criticized both the Nigeria Football Federation and Lagos State Government for allegedly neglecting Rufai’s family.


It's discouraging to see that Lagos State and the Nigerian Football Association are placing most of the responsibility on the family. In my gut, it feels like there's nothing worth sacrificing yourself for in this situation. That's why I've decided to take a step back—so I won't break down under pressure. It's truly distressing.


"My mother died, but I didn't cry. When my father took his last breath in front of me, still no tears came. However, when Rufai passed away, I felt goosebumps all over and found myself shedding tears as I spoke to everyone about it. What kind of nation are we living in?" he remarked.


West recalled similar neglect of late football icons like Stephen Keshi, Rashidi Yekini, and Thompson Oliha. He noted that the ongoing disregard for former players deters him from encouraging his children to represent Nigeria in football.


With such an example, I wouldn't even advise my own son to step foot in this country. Get me out of here! Do we have a Football Federation or a Football Association in Lagos State? It's disheartening that this hero, soldier, and football evangelist is treated like this by their own community.


"Can you believe the family is resorting to tears just to beg for money from our groups? It's madness. Please, let me go. I don’t want to open up," he said.


Rufai, affectionately known as "Dodo Mayana," served as Nigeria's first-choice goalkeeper during their victorious 1994 Africa Cup of Nations campaign and participated in the nation's inaugural appearance at the FIFA World Cup that same year. He passed away in July 2025.
