3 hospitalized, including child, after minivan crashes into Pennsylvania festival
Three people, including a child and a woman in a wheelchair, were hospitalized Monday after a minivan drove through the Kipona Festival in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Authorities have taken the driver into custody, but it remains unclear whether the incident was intentional as the investigation continues.
The annual three-day festival, held over Labor Day weekend, celebrates the region’s Native American heritage. Harrisburg Police Captain Atah Akakpo-Martin said the vehicle entered a barricaded area just after 6 p.m., near the end of the event. Among those injured was a 6-year-old boy in critical condition. The other two victims, a city traffic department employee and a woman in a wheelchair, were reported in stable condition, according to Mayor Wanda Williams.
Officials have not confirmed if the driver was alone or if anyone in the vehicle was injured. Photos from the scene show the red minivan sustained front-end damage after striking multiple objects and traveling several blocks through the festival before coming to a stop.
