Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has issued a strong warning to the incoming Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging the electoral body to ensure a free and fair 2027 presidential election. George cautioned that any attempt to manipulate the election results could plunge Nigeria into chaos, stating, “If INEC imposes a president and does not allow citizens to decide their leader, we are heading for hell.”
Speaking in an exclusive interview amid speculations about former President Goodluck Jonathan’s potential candidacy in 2027, George emphasized that the will of the Nigerian people must prevail. He noted that the PDP, during its recent meeting, resolved that its next presidential candidate must come from the southern region of the country, aligning with Jonathan’s regional background.
“Where is Jonathan from? Is he not from the South?” George asked, clarifying that while Jonathan is eligible, the PDP’s candidate will be determined through a competitive process at the party’s national convention. “We are not barring anybody else from the South to compete,” he added, stressing that any southern aspirant can vie for the PDP’s presidential ticket.
George reiterated the importance of a transparent electoral process, urging the new INEC leadership to act with integrity and allow Nigerians to freely choose their leader in 2027.
