 South Africa says US misrepresented its policies after visa curbs South Africa's foreign ministry said on Wednesday that it ‌had noted with concern U.S. visa restrictions on some people from South Africa announced by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio a day earlier. The foreign ministry added in a statement that ⁠the U.S. announcement aligned with "the mischaracterisation of South Africa's domestic policies by fringe groups". "We maintain that challenges in our bilateral relations with the USA can only be resolved by constructive engagement through state actors on both sides of the diplomatic channel not unilateral acts," the statement said, Reuters reported. Trump has repeatedly criticized ‌South ⁠Africa since the start of his second term for what he falsely claims is the racial persecution of its white minority, citing affirmative action laws aimed at ⁠addressing the inequality that has persisted since apartheid.  Fireworks fatally injure 13-year-old boy in head

A 13-year-old boy in Oklahoma died on Labor Day after being struck in the head by a firework.

The incident occurred Monday evening at Sandy Park Apartments in West Tulsa, near West 11th Place and South 61st West Avenue. Witnesses said a group of boys were setting off fireworks, some of which ignited a small patch of grass at the south edge of the property.

Police reported that the boy was holding a mortar-style firework with the tube facing his head when it ignited. Emergency responders from the Tulsa Fire Department attempted life-saving measures, and the teen was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

A 2022 survey of more than 2,000 parents of children ages 3-18 found that many fail to take adequate precautions to prevent firework injuries. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission noted that firework-related injuries and deaths in the U.S. had risen roughly 25% over the 15 years leading up to 2022.
