AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk.  Abia Governor Orders Police Probe into Alleged Disappearance of 23-Year-Old

Governor Alex Otti has ordered the Abia State Police Command to investigate the alleged disappearance of 23-year-old Solomon Ikokwu, an indigene of Amangwu Oloko in Ikwuano Local Government Area, following a disturbing report of his arrest and mistreatment by a disbanded community security outfit.

According to Solomon’s mother, Mrs. Onyekachi Ikokwu, her son was apprehended on September 27, 2025, by members of the Vigilante group on allegations of committing a crime. She claimed the operatives forcibly removed Solomon from their family compound, inflicted severe machete wounds on him, and struck him with a molded block, causing him to bleed and vomit blood. Mrs. Ikokwu further alleged that the operatives placed her unconscious son in a wheelbarrow and took him to a riverside, after which he has not been seen.

She also reported that the perpetrators returned to assault another of her sons and threatened to harm other family members. Mrs. Ikokwu has appealed to the government and the public for help in locating her son, noting that the incident was reported to the Ikwuano Police Division.

The issue was brought to Governor Otti’s attention by a journalist on Thursday, prompting him to direct the state police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
