Abia State to Host 63rd WAEC Nigeria National Committee Meeting in 2025

Abia State has been selected to host the 63rd Meeting of the Nigeria National Committee of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), scheduled to take place in November 2025 in Umuahia.

A delegation from WAEC, led by Mrs. Mary Chima, the Branch Controller in Abia State, formally announced the development during a courtesy visit to the state government on Tuesday.

Mrs. Chima described the Nigeria National Committee as WAEC’s highest policy-making body in the country, bringing together Commissioners of Education, Heads of WAEC Offices, and senior national officers to deliberate on examination standards and educational direction nationwide.

In his remarks, the Abia State Governor expressed delight over the selection, describing it as both an honour and an opportunity to showcase the state’s progress in the education sector.

He highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to renovate and reconstruct schools across the state, improve teacher quality, and strengthen the curriculum. According to him, the recruitment of an additional 5,000 qualified teachers is already underway to enhance learning outcomes.

“With thousands of new teachers set to join our classrooms and major upgrades ongoing across our schools, we are proud to say Abia is ready,” the Governor stated.

He also commended WAEC for the honour and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting academic excellence, integrity, discipline, and innovation in the state’s education system.
