AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Fake Drug Dealers in Ogbogwu market are the ones Behind the Plot to Remove Me as Chairman of the market- Ndubuisi Chukwuleta(Chairman of Ogbogwu Market)

Mr. Ndubuisi Chukwuleta, the caretaker chairman of the Ogbogwu Market in Onitsha, Anambra State, has spoken out over what he described as a plot by some individuals to remove him from office.

Speaking during an interview on Gbam, Mr. Chukwuleta alleged that those behind the moves are fake drug dealers and individuals who are opposed to the ongoing reforms in the market.

According to him, the resistance to his leadership stems from his firm stance against the sale of fake and substandard drugs within the market.

“It’s people who don’t want the progress of the market that are fighting me,” he said. “The fake drug cartel still wants to bring in fake drugs and continue selling, but they no longer have their way.”

Mr. Chukwuleta also revealed that some of the aggrieved individuals were displeased because their access to perform fetish sacrifices within the market had been restricted.

He maintained that his leadership remains focused on sanitizing the market and ensuring genuine business practices prevail.

“I am the best man for the job,” he insisted. “If change must happen, it should start from somewhere — and that’s exactly what we are doing at Ogbogwu.”
