BENUE GOVT PROBES VIRAL VIDEO OF MUSICIAN PERFORMING INDECENT SONG BEFORE STUDENTS

7th October, 2025

The Benue State Bureau for Education Quality Assurance (BEQA) has commenced an investigation into a viral video showing a musician, identified as Egyptian Cairo, performing a song with indecent lyrics before students in a school.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Director General of BEQA, Dr. Terna Francis, confirmed that preliminary findings traced the incident to Foundation College, Abeda Shitile, in Benue State.

Dr. Francis described the performance as a “serious violation of ethical and moral standards” expected within learning environments, stressing that such acts undermine the principles of quality assurance in education.

“While we acknowledge the importance of holistic education across cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains — including creative expressions such as music — vulgarity, indecency, and immorality have no place in our schools and will not be tolerated under any guise,” the statement read in part.

He appealed for calm, assuring the public that a full-scale investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. According to him, the Bureau’s findings will be forwarded to the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management for appropriate administrative action.

Dr. Francis reaffirmed BEQA’s commitment to promoting moral discipline and academic excellence in all schools across the state, in line with Governor Hyacinth Alia’s vision for a value-driven education system.
