David Attenborough, 99, sets record as oldest Daytime Emmy winner as General Hospital dominates awards

The Daytime Emmys brought a night of milestones and emotional moments as “General Hospital” dominated the ceremony with six major awards, including best drama series. Paul Telfer of “Days of Our Lives” and Nancy Lee Grahn of “General Hospital” took home the top acting honors, each delivering heartfelt speeches that reflected their personal and professional journeys. Telfer, who plays the scheming Xander Kiriakis, dedicated his award to his late mother, recalling her love of soap operas and villains. Grahn, who has portrayed Alexis Davis since 1996, used her acceptance speech to issue an impassioned call for civic engagement, holding a clutch inscribed with the words “Democracy dies in silence” as she urged the audience to “stand up” for decency and democracy.

At 99, Sir David Attenborough made history as the oldest-ever Daytime Emmy winner, surpassing Dick Van Dyke’s previous record. He earned the award for daytime personality, non-daily, for hosting Netflix’s “Secret Lives of Orangutans.” “General Hospital” also celebrated wins for Jonathan Jackson as supporting actor, Alley Mills as guest performer, and its writing and directing teams. Mills, who plays Heather Webber, reflected on staying positive through difficult times, while newcomer Lisa Yamada from “The Bold and the Beautiful” broke into tears accepting her emerging talent award. Drew Barrymore earned her first trophy as a daytime talk show host, with “Live With Kelly and Mark” taking home the best talk series award. Kardea Brown’s joyous reaction as culinary host for “Delicious Miss Brown” was among the night’s highlights, as she credited her faith for her success. The ceremony concluded with journalist Deborah Norville receiving the career achievement award, marking a new chapter following her 30-year tenure as anchor of “Inside Edition.”
