Google has cut more than 100 employees in design-related positions within its cloud division, according to internal documents.
The layoffs affected teams focused on “quantitative user experience research” and “platform and service experience,” along with several related groups. These roles typically use data, surveys, and behavioral analysis to guide product development and design decisions. Many of those impacted are based in the U.S., and some have until early December to transition to other positions within the company.
The reductions come as Google shifts its spending priorities toward artificial intelligence infrastructure. Over the past year, the company has offered voluntary exit packages to employees across multiple U.S. units and reduced the number of managers overseeing small teams by over a third. Employees have also been encouraged to incorporate more AI tools into their daily workflows.
Google’s cost-cutting efforts mirror moves across other major tech companies. Microsoft laid off 9,000 employees in July, while Meta has also reduced staff in recent months.
