 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  LAGOS POLICE RECOVER 75 MOBILE GADGETS AND 5 LAPTOPS ABANDONED BY FLEEING SUSPECTS DURING ROUTINE PATROL IN IKEJA


Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have recovered a significant number of electronic gadgets during a routine patrol in the Ikeja area. The recovery followed the interception of two fleeing suspects who abandoned two large “Ghana Must Go” bags upon sighting the operatives near Allen Roundabout, Ikeja, Lagos.


On Sunday, 5th October, 2025, at about 5:30 a.m., the operatives inspected the bags and discovered 32 iPhones of different models, alongside 38 other smartphones of various brands such as Samsung, Redmi, Tecno, and Honor. Also recovered were five laptops, several smart wristwatches, AirPods, a Samsung Tab, a Sorapad, and a number of damaged phones suspected to have been stolen from different parts of Ikeja and its environs. 


Speaking on the recovery, the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad, CSP Shola Jejeloye, stated that preliminary investigations revealed the items were stolen property hurriedly abandoned by the suspects. He urged members of the public who may have lost similar devices to visit the RRS Headquarters, Alausa, with verifiable proof of ownership for proper identification and reclaim.


The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Moshood Jimoh, commended the operatives for their vigilance and swift response. He lauded their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, and the continuous enhancement of public safety across Lagos State.

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence, on Friday, Dec. 26, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government had ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S, adding that they will arrive in the country “soon”.
