SYRACUSE, NEW YORK - A Syracuse man is accused of stealing dozens of rental cars from the airport and renting them across central New York, police say.

Authorities report that between June and August, 47 vehicles were taken from Avis Budget Car Rental at Syracuse Hancock International Airport, with a total value exceeding $1 million. Thompson faces charges including second-degree grand larceny, a Class C felony, and first-degree scheme to defraud, a Class E felony. So far, 42 of the stolen vehicles have been recovered.

Several other individuals have also been arrested and charged with unlawful use of a vehicle, though police have not released their names. Airport officials declined to comment on the case.

Police are asking anyone with information on Thompson’s whereabouts to contact the Syracuse airport police at 315-455-3500 or via email at PD_Supervisor@sraapd.org.
