In a statement issued on Tuesday, The family of Nnamdi Kanu has reacted to several claims that former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore intentionally handed Kanu's lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor and his brother, Emmanuel to the Federal Government.
The statement surfaced after Aloy Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu and several other people were arrested during the protest that was organized by Omoyele Sowore in FCT.
The Nigeria Police charged Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu, and 10 others with a two-count offence of inciting public disturbance and breach of peace after they protested.
However, the family of Nnamdi Kanu has now responded to claims that Omoyele Sowore sold out those who were arrested. In a statement that was signed by Kanunta Kanu, the family backed the actions of Omoyele Sowore.
Kanunta stated that the activist did the right thing by mobilizing people to protest the release of Nnamdi Kanu. He said the claim that Omoyele Sowore sold out the people is mischievously incorrect.” Kanunta said majority of the people coming up with the claims are Igbo politicians who couldn't do what Omoyele Sowore did.
He accused some political elites in the South East of deliberately spreading falsehoods about Sowore out of embarrassment that “a non-Igbo had the courage to do what they could not.”
The family also accused the Federal Government of using state institutions to persecute Nnamdi Kanu and intimidate the Igbo people. They alleged that the recent arrests were meant to emotionally destabilize Kanu ahead of his court appearance scheduled for Thursday.
In the Kanunta Kanu, who spoke for the family, condemned the arrests, describing them as unlawful and provocative. He demanded the immediate release of Emmanuel, Ejimakor, and other demonstrators who were apprehended during what he said was a peaceful protest.
