Anambra State on Monday hosted this year's World Igbo day in grand Style to showcase the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the race which has connections in all parts of the world.
The grand finale of the celebration took place at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square Awka where Igbos from the 5 geo- political zones of the state, Delta, Rivers, and beyond converged to celebrate their survival and successes as a people.
As part of the resolutions made at the forum, the Oha na Eze Ndigbo and Igbos worldwide made a call for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu who is still in captivity for challenging the marginalization of the Igbos and other heinous crimes against them.
Another historic event at the forum was the conferment of Governor Chukwuma Soludo with the traditional title of "Oku Nyelu Ife Ndigbo" by the Igbo cultural apex organization.
Governor Soludo in an acceptance speech, joined the Apex Igbo Organization in making an appeal to the federal government for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
The governor commended the group for recognizing his efforts as a Pan Africanist and an Igbo man to the core.
He urged that a meeting of all the Igbo Stakeholders world wide be convened to discuss the Igbo project with a view to determinimg whether to secede as a people from Nigeria or to fortify the Igbo nation and developing its resources within the Nigerian context.
Governor Soludo decried the attitude of some self acclaimed Igbo freedom fighters masquerading under the IPOB banner to perpetuate their organized crimes of kidnapping, armed robberies and other violent crimes against their brothers.
He promised to sustain his efforts to rid the state of such elements and to work toward moving the state to greater heights.
In a speech, the Secretary General of the Oha na Eze Ndigbo and one time Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Chief Emeka Sibeudu spoke of the position of the Apex organization to sustain the Igbo cause of freedom and prosperity of Igbos worldwide.
He expected Igbos to be their brothers keepers and work towards being each others keepers.
Some Igbo traditional rulers who spoke in favour of the justifiable Chieftaincy Title given to Governor Soludo by the Apex organization include the traditional ruler of Uke Igwe, Charles Agbala and his Umuawulu counterpart, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu.
The duo expected the Igbos to be united in all ramifications to fight their common cause.
